so my friend tells me to type


if your happy and your know it syntax error

the username@desktop~$ thing became a >...just curios what does this mean and why did it happen?

It's waiting for you to complete it, whatever 'it' is.
Same thing happens when you type

echo "Test
it shows a >, and until you type another " or something else, it'll just be waiting.

because bash assumes you've started an "if" statement.

hit Ctrl+C to get out of it :)
