Hello all,

I have recently acquired an Asus Eee PC 1000h, onto which I wish to install a very lightweight Ubuntu.

The actual removal of Windows, and the installation of either regular Ubuntu and Xubuntu did not cause any major issues. The absence of an Ethernet driver in the base installation was easily solved through the advice given on this blog entry (http://kunin.wordpress.com/2008/07/05/asus-eee-pc-901/) [kunin.wordpress.com].

However, I am at a loss when it comes to using the Mini CD (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD) [help.ubuntu.com], which requires an active Ethernet connection. Indeed, due to the lack of appropriate drivers in the default install, the Mini CD does not recognize the networking hardware and cannot download the packages it needs.

Now, on to the question itself…

Is there a way for me to customize things so that the installer loads the correct Ethernet driver?

I tried either altering the .iso file or using the ash shell during the installation process to copy the driver from a USB drive, but both methods yielded no results.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
