shoud i update before I upgrade?

I just installed Ubuntu gutsy can i upgrade to hardy without doing the updates? (will it damage Hardy?)

Its recommended that Gutsy be fully up to date before doing the upgrade to Hardy.
Haven't tired to do a distribution upgrade without the current version being up to date.

Since its new install. You might want to look at doing a net install of Hardy.

I've updated to Hardy from a fresh Gutsy install from the Live CD, without taking the Gutsy updates, and at least for me, it worked fine.

But, I'm sure the "correct" answer is to take all the Gutsy updates prior to the upgrade.
