Video Problems

Got ubuntu installed. Video worked perfect during install process. Put it on a seperate drive. Upon first boot after install the video is nothing but pieces of the screen flying all over the place.
The system is a generic AMD 1000 Mhz. 1GB Ram 40 GB drive.. Radeon 7200 video card. VIA chipset.
Any ideas?
