Hey gang. I've been reading the forums all morning and haven't found anything exactly like my problem.

Computer stats:
Dell Dimension L500R circa 2000.
Currently running Windows 98.
Pentium III 700 Mhz, 256 RAM

Installing the Xubuntu 8.04.

I burned the iso image onto a CDR on my Windows XP laptop.
I inserted the disc into the old Dell and rebooted.
At the Xubuntu startup screen, I checked the CD for errors, there were none.
I selected "Try Xubuntu without changing anything"
I get a blank blue screen and my mouse locks up.

I'll try anything. Please help.

You may want to try installing using the alternative CD--there's a box that you can check to request this when downloading the ISO from the Ubuntu site. The alternative CD uses less memory, which may be the problem here (256 MB is really the bare minimum for a live CD).

Another option, since you have Windows on the computer, is to install using wubi (http://wubi-installer.org).

I've installed full ubuntu on weaker computers, not to mention xubuntu, but the alternate CD is definitely the way to go if there's ever a performance question.

The alternative CD is the way to go. I'm actually typing this on the old Dell. Looks like it got a new lease on life.

Thanks!
