I spent a lot of time renaming mp3's to a standard naming convention as I added them to disk. This started over 10 years ago, before ID3 was as big as it is now. I've never been concerned with the ID3 tags in my collection and they are all over the place. I simply want the music player to look at filenames when making playlists. Going back and fixing the ID3 tags, which I don't want to start with, is not much of an option. Thanks for any help.

I switched over to Exaile, under View--->Columns it offers filename as one of the selections. I just unchecked all of the ID3 related columns and I have a nice alphabetical order filename based playlist.

Use EasyTAG (apt://easytag), there is a function to apply tags from the filename. This application makes tagging very fast when you know how to use it.
