or something pretty much like that. I have it written down at work where I was trying to install.

Every time I try to install 8.4.01 or run a live session I get that message repeatedly or I get dropped into some kind of shell.

What's going on with that and how do I fix it so I can install, or should I just stick with Fedora.

Try burning the iso at a lower speed (x4 or less) and checking the cd for defects if you have not already done so.
If you have a spare cdrom lying around the place, try replacing the cd rom and see if the problem persists.
If you don't have a spare cdrom maybe you could look at installing by another method like usb or unetbootin (http://lubi.sourceforge.net/unetbootin.html) which don't require the use of the cdrom.
Or wait and see what others have to say.
