Can't get the CD to boot and install

I have attempted on a few occasions to install Ubuntu 7 onto my machine that I recently built. My problem is that everytime I attempt to install I receive the usual start up options and as soon as I chose to install Ubuntu the screen goes blank and nothing else will happen. what could cause this and how can I fix it?

probably a video card issue. please give the specs of your machine. and the correct version of ubuntu, there is no version 7.

You can try, in start screen, press F6 and type "acpi=off". Using this I have achieved to run Live CD of Ubuntu, version 7 and 8.04.
