OK, so I ran across this thread in my search for an answer to the same question, and no one mentioned a product I came across that will do the job very well. Problem is, I sign up to this forum and can't reply, because:

Hello, Xaneth You are browsing a READ only archive of the main support categories pre 4/21/2008. You will not be able to post or reply any threads in this section.

The old thread can be referenced here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=468184

And what I had to add to that, was that I found a product called HardInfo at:

http://hardinfo.berlios.de/HomePage

We're running RHEL, but I imagine it should work on Ubuntu as well.

Hardinfo is in the repositories (universe), go ahead and install it through synaptic, or <sudo apt-get install hardinfo>.

Also, just to note... "Hard Info" isn't listed as such when you go and try to open the program. It stores itself at System-Preferences and is named "System Profiler and Benchmark."

I posted here with intention to ask that question, but took 1 last look and found it. Figured I'd let you folks know.

Oh, and as always, it's also accessible via command line @ "hardinfo."
