I am having the same issues mentioned in support ticket http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=591664&highlight=%5BSOLVED%5D+Could+not+start+the+X-Server (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=591664&highlight=%5BSOLVED%5D+Could+not+start+the+X-Server&page=1). However, I have not made any changes to my fstab file that I am aware of since I loaded the machine two weeks ago. I did try the directions listed in that thread and removed all of the mounts aside from the /, /boot and swap and am still getting this same error. This machine was working fine for the past two weeks and has only now decided to break as I was switching to it full-time.

Any ideas?

We would like to help you but other than X not working no one has a clue whats wrong with your system. I believe you would be much better off starting your own thread and not high jacking this one. The best advice I can give you what ever you do is to give much more detail about your problem. Tell us what kind of computer you have. (i.e. mines a Dell) Your video card (mines onboard intel) and what version of Ubuntu you are using. I'm using ubuntu 8.10 with linux 2-6--27-9-generic.

uname -sr will tell you your kernel version

hope that help get you started in the right direction.

Edit: Forgot the most important part, the error your system is giving you
