View Full Version : [xubuntu] Xubuntu starts up incredibly slowly

So, I managed to salvage a Toshiba Satellite (which, from reading the forums, doesn't seem to like linux very much) by replacing a broken screen and keyboard.

However, it seems that somewhere, one of my Windows .dlls corrupted, so I decided to go ahead and switch to linux.

I installed the latest version of Xubuntu on it, and it installed seemingly without a hitch.
However, while everything boots up fine, once I log in, it moves incredibly slowly. I've gone a half hour and I only have to black bars where the panels go.

thanks in advance.

Try booting into verbose mode and see where it hangs, then post back.

I hate to sound like a fool, but how do I do that?

Don't worry about it, we all have to start somewhere. :)

While it's booting up (splash screen) press this:

Cntrl+Alt+F1
Should take you to a black screen, just see what it hangs on.

It doesn't seem to hang on anything, but it is repeating this over and over
[ (series of numbers, different each time)] ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR}
[ same numbers] ata1.00 error: { UNC }
