I have a seemingly generic PC system - it ran XP and 7.01 fine. I would like to load 8.04 on it and have resorted to the Alternate image for installation and am still having no luck.

I only have 256 MB or memory on the system and the Alt. install will get through to where it checks the hardware, configures DHCP, runs through the keyboard setup, does the disk partitioning and finally, when it says "installing the base system, it gets to various points and hangs. It locks up and there is no keyboard. There's no drive activity either.

Any ideas on how to proceed?
Thanks

did you check the cd for defects? Its one of the options at the main menu.

THanks for the reply. Yes, I checked the CD and used the memory test as well. No problems were noted.

UPDATE 8/26/08 - I was never able to install any version of 8.04. I went back and was able to install 7.10 again with no issues.
