I was curious if anybody else noticed a bunch of useless fonts installed on there system; fonts such as Albattar, Alhor, Hor, Sinbad, etc., which all look alike, or just don't render correctly. These are default fonts installed with the system. Does anybody else have any of these, or is there just an error on my system?

I think they are for non-latin character sets.

I deleted them, I hope my system doesn't crash.

For a minute there I thought that this thread was about useless fonts in general. In that case my answer would be Comic Sans.

There are so many useless fonts on my XP install. I got one that looks like the Walt Disney font. I've every only used about 6 fonts:

Times New Romans
Tahoma
Georgia
Trebushet
Verdana
Dax

Everything else is useless. Maybe I'll delete the others.

Oh, I guess they're not useless to everyone then. Thanks for the explanation.

Perhaps it would be an idea to give the non-Latin fonts a more obvious name for Latin/English alphabet using users. I was a bit stumped by this at first.

Is there a guide or list of the fonts included in ubuntu that can be used to decide which ones are needed?

It is annoying to have so many fonts in programs like OOo when most of them are useless to most users.
