SOFTWARE FIRM Microsoft has actively lobbied the US government and branches of the administration in an attempt to get them to put pressure on the European Union and by extension the European Commission.
The Financial Times said it has seen a memo from Microsoft which shows executives have met White House officials and asked them to influence the European Union.
The reason why Microsoft reckons it can get away with this is because an adverse decision in Europe could damage US businesses.
Naturally, Microsoft does not mention the fact that it’s already been convicted of being a monopolist in the USA – a fact that shows it’s guilty of damaging US businesses already.
The Justice Department told the Financial Times that it wasn’t unusual for firms to contact its officials.
But he or she added that it prefers to make up its own mind on matters of this nature.
