View Full Version : How do I migrate from Yahoo! Mail to GMail? (and should I really do that?)

Since I was in grade school, I have been using Yahoo! Mail. There was no GMail then. Yahoo! Mail is amazing now with its new interface and unlimited inbox storage space.

I am thinking of migrating to GMail, though. I can do more things with Google now. I prefer to use my GMail account as my main account because I love Google more than Yahoo! (hehe) and Google has more services now. Though I can use my Yahoo! account for Google's services, I prefer using GMail for some odd reason. Maybe because its more integrated to my Google Calendar and Google Docs.

If everyone contacts me through my Yahoo! Mail account, what do I do? Should I really use GMail as my main account? Should I really have a main account? Is there a way that would make it easy for me to check my inboxes in two email providers?

This page (http://www.wikihow.com/Switch-from-Yahoo!-Mail-to-Gmail) looks quite helpful for transfering contacts and a tip about autoresponse.

Personally I love GMail, I've never actually used Yahoo though so can't fairly compare. Although you don't get the annoying advert at the bottom of all sent messages.

If you want to download all your mail from yahoo or forward mail from yahoo you need Yahooplus which costs money.

Nothing stopping you making a clean break to gmail though, and then in future things like pop/imap/forwarding are free.

gmail is extremely useful. I use it for googledocs, photos, etc. etc. You can even chat with others who use gmail.

With Yahoo too.

Gmail's greatest feature is its spam detection. It is the best at that.

All you do is add Yahoo's POP account to Gmail. I currently have Gmail aggregating mail from 2 older email accounts via POP.

Can use something like freepops (http://www.freepops.org/en/).

Many blessings.
