About 50Gb, got all my cd's ripped to my computer (most of them at 320kbps), although theres quite a few I never listen to but not short on space so no point in deleting them.

Honestly? Most of it. I have many entire discography's. But as I scroll through the collection right now, close to 100 different bands, only a few have I not listened to in the past couple weeks.

About 40Gb - all of it legally purchased / ripped from CD or vinyl.

And I listen to about 30GB of it on a rotating basis. Whatever I'm in the mood for.

Obviously, I listen to some more than others - but who doesn't.

Roughly 75 physical CD's ripped to FLAC, the entire OverClockedRemix archive and all the OCR albums, various Jamendo and Magnatune albums, and other indie artists.

I listen to them all fairly regularly, often loading my playlist on random and just letting it go.

Around 33GB, around 5000 songs. I had well over 10,000 songs before, but when I moved in with my girlfriend I found myself getting away with listening to less and less of it (it was mostly death/funeral doom metal) and subsequently deleted most of it, since I was running low on room too.

I could see it if you were a DJ. I know a couple of different DJ's and they both have almost a TB of storage each, it used to be allot smaller, it was all stored as mp3 and now it is flac so it takes up much more space but with amazing quality.

Yes, 250 GB of music. I almost have no movies. It's just about the O.S. (~5 GB), work/personal files (~2 GB), videos (currently, just one, so < 1 GB) and the rest is music.

I simply love music. Of course, I don't listen to everything I got, but I do it when I have some extra time, to know other bands/genres. You know...

According to Rhythmbox:
2720 songs, 14.3GB, totaling 6 days, 10 hours, 33 minutes.

Mostly MP3s, a little of FLACs and OGGs.

oldsoundguy
August 25th, 2008, 05:56 PM
as I posted earlier .. over a TB if you count the music videos. (not to mention the over 3000 burned disks) But I am a collector, former on the air DJ and then retired from the music business (live sound engineer), and a LOT of it is my old vinyl or board mix tapes that I ripped and cleaned up. (had to use Dart Pro in Windows to do so. Linux had NOTHING even comparable at the time I did the ripping.)

Can I ever listen to it all? Not a chance!! But I can program some really bizarre play lists!

bah, music collections aren't measured in gigabytes. I have right around 700 CDs, probably 100 cassettes, a few 8 tracks, about 20 or 30 records. That's my music collection.

The music files on my hard drive are about 50 gigs, but that's not part of my collection.

My collection is fairly small. I have 438 songs (.ogg files) taking up about 1.4 GB. Most of my collection is ripped from my own CD collection, although I only ripped the songs I really liked.

Still, since most of my CDs are soundtracks from movies, I have about 123 artists, but 76 of them only have one song on my player. On the other hand, one artist is responsible for a third of the songs.

currently, i estimate my collection to be:

I have about 50Gb and growing. I don't have any idea how many CDs I have, but I've ripped about 2/3rds of them (All that I listen to regularly). Maybe about 10 albums were digital downloads.
My music has been growing quickly lately, because I found a nice used record store close to my house. The good guys there aligned the needle/cartridges in my turntables, so they sound real good now. I've been putting a lot of my old records onto MP3 (and some on CD), and I've spent about $150 in the last 3 weeks on new & old vinyl. Just don't tell my wife how much $$$ I've spent.

I've been using Ubuntu now since 2006. It took me this long to get everything archived in FLAC on the remote HD and converted to OGG (q6) on the computer. I only had about 200 cd's but I don't have the time or patience to sit there and constantly plug cd's into the computer, so I did one or two at a time.

I just recently signed up on Magnatune (http://www.magnatune.com/), so I imagine that 16 GB will grow over time.

And onto CD's.

Where do I start ?

Put it this way..... I got a significant payout for an industrial accident in the early 80's..ie: Cd had only just been invented and was VERY expensive to buy.

I bought a player. There was only classical music available so I got one chucked in with the price....

After a few months a few more cd's trickled in.... OMD.. then Queens A kind of Magic as DDD

And so on....

Latest cd Purchased

The Coral
Arcade Fire (suburbs)
Amy McDonald
Paloma Faith

just took this pic of comp desk with cd's waiting to rip to HD.
