August 24th, 2008, 06:11 PM
About 50Gb, got all my cd's ripped to my computer (most of them at 320kbps), although theres quite a few I never listen to but not short on space so no point in deleting them.

August 24th, 2008, 06:12 PM
Honestly? Most of it. I have many entire discography's. But as I scroll through the collection right now, close to 100 different bands, only a few have I not listened to in the past couple weeks.

August 24th, 2008, 06:12 PM
about 14000 songs, 80 GB. I never delete music, I like just having all on my hard drive, just in case..

August 24th, 2008, 06:15 PM
about 4 gig of FLAC

August 24th, 2008, 06:17 PM
118 albums, 1326 songs, 126gb

August 24th, 2008, 06:17 PM
17.5 GB, give or take. It's growth rate has slowed (not sure if that's good or bad at the moment)

By the way, is that Cosmo in your avatar?

August 24th, 2008, 07:11 PM
About 40Gb - all of it legally purchased / ripped from CD or vinyl.

And I listen to about 30GB of it on a rotating basis. Whatever I'm in the mood for.

Obviously, I listen to some more than others - but who doesn't.

August 24th, 2008, 07:18 PM
22GB. It's closer to 10 than 50, but it's too late, I already voted 50. :P

August 24th, 2008, 07:19 PM
Music Collection: 84.8 GB
Artists: 923
Albums: 351
Songs: 6175

Roughly 75 physical CD's ripped to FLAC, the entire OverClockedRemix archive and all the OCR albums, various Jamendo and Magnatune albums, and other indie artists.

I listen to them all fairly regularly, often loading my playlist on random and just letting it go.

Around 33GB, around 5000 songs. I had well over 10,000 songs before, but when I moved in with my girlfriend I found myself getting away with listening to less and less of it (it was mostly death/funeral doom metal) and subsequently deleted most of it, since I was running low on room too.

August 24th, 2008, 08:55 PM
Although not full, I have 3 250 gb hard drives for music and a 500 gb for music video. Over 3000 music cd's and over 250 music video cd's/dvd's.

Cataloging is a real chore.

82 GB. Granted some of them are zipped up (don't listen to them as much). Plus when I do listen to them I can use foobar2000 (it can read music in zipped up files).

Still gotta add the Andy Lau songs into that collection as well.

My music collection is always changing size. I add and delete songs all the time, as my music taste changes and grows.

The formats I use are primarily mp3 and FLAC, with some ogg and m4a thrown in for good measure.

About 2,400 songs in iTunes on Windows, around 10 GB.

250 gb of music?

I can understand 20-100 gb, but 250gb.

There is no way you can listn to all your music on a regular basis.

I you mean 250gb of media then I could understand.

I could see it if you were a DJ. I know a couple of different DJ's and they both have almost a TB of storage each, it used to be allot smaller, it was all stored as mp3 and now it is flac so it takes up much more space but with amazing quality.

Yes, 250 GB of music. I almost have no movies. It's just about the O.S. (~5 GB), work/personal files (~2 GB), videos (currently, just one, so < 1 GB) and the rest is music.

I simply love music. Of course, I don't listen to everything I got, but I do it when I have some extra time, to know other bands/genres. You know...

August 25th, 2008, 04:54 PM
According to Rhythmbox:
2720 songs, 14.3GB, totaling 6 days, 10 hours, 33 minutes.

Almost half of them are movie soundtracks!!

Mostly MP3s, a little of FLACs and OGGs.

August 25th, 2008, 05:56 PM
as I posted earlier .. over a TB if you count the music videos. (not to mention the over 3000 burned disks) But I am a collector, former on the air DJ and then retired from the music business (live sound engineer), and a LOT of it is my old vinyl or board mix tapes that I ripped and cleaned up. (had to use Dart Pro in Windows to do so. Linux had NOTHING even comparable at the time I did the ripping.)

Can I ever listen to it all? Not a chance!! But I can program some really bizarre play lists!

August 25th, 2008, 06:58 PM
bah, music collections aren't measured in gigabytes. I have right around 700 CDs, probably 100 cassettes, a few 8 tracks, about 20 or 30 records. That's my music collection.

The music files on my hard drive are about 50 gigs, but that's not part of my collection.

August 25th, 2008, 07:10 PM
a few 8 tracks,

I've still got "The Bay City Rollers Greatest Hits" on 8-track... () plus some Beach Boys, Kansas, Journey, and a working player.

Less than 1 GB, my actual folder is 1.2 GB actually, but I have some random midis and other random mp3s that son't belong in my music collection, thy're just there (Simcity 3000 music for example :-P) Overall I have about 300 real songs, not that much but w/e

August 26th, 2008, 12:32 AM
None on my computer right now, I got annoyed at how unorganised it all was, how low quality everything was, and how little of it I actually listen to and deleted it all, will now re-download and rip the music I actually want and listen to and organise it all properly.

August 26th, 2008, 01:10 AM
My collection is fairly small. I have 438 songs (.ogg files) taking up about 1.4 GB. Most of my collection is ripped from my own CD collection, although I only ripped the songs I really liked.

Still, since most of my CDs are soundtracks from movies, I have about 123 artists, but 76 of them only have one song on my player. On the other hand, one artist is responsible for a third of the songs.

currently, i estimate my collection to be:

1 500gb hd with approx 200 gigs of music (excluding duplicates - duplicates including files on other hard drives)

I realize that this is an old thread. I was going to start a similar thread and this one showed up in a search. A co-worker who has a 1.5 TB MP3 collection got me thinking about it.

My own collection seems rather sparse in comparison. I have about 3500 songs, 16 GB.

I have about 50Gb and growing. I don't have any idea how many CDs I have, but I've ripped about 2/3rds of them (All that I listen to regularly). Maybe about 10 albums were digital downloads.
My music has been growing quickly lately, because I found a nice used record store close to my house. The good guys there aligned the needle/cartridges in my turntables, so they sound real good now. I've been putting a lot of my old records onto MP3 (and some on CD), and I've spent about $150 in the last 3 weeks on new & old vinyl. Just don't tell my wife how much $$$ I've spent.

November 18th, 2010, 02:55 AM
About 7gb. Every Thrice Trivium and type o negative CD. And all the unreleased ones i could get. A few counting crows and taste of choas, as well as a pedro the lion.

618GB, much of it FLAC, lots of live shows.

Can't give the length or better stats because I don't use a music library manager.

I had about 300 over song mostly from the late 70s and 80s. Didn't listen much to the latest music so my songs are kind a stagnant in that era. Rip all the CDs and use RhythmBox to play none stop.

I've been using Ubuntu now since 2006. It took me this long to get everything archived in FLAC on the remote HD and converted to OGG (q6) on the computer. I only had about 200 cd's but I don't have the time or patience to sit there and constantly plug cd's into the computer, so I did one or two at a time.

I just recently signed up on Magnatune (http://www.magnatune.com/), so I imagine that 16 GB will grow over time.

November 19th, 2010, 09:52 PM
My music collection is the entire of Jamendo.

November 19th, 2010, 09:52 PM
We are very similar in music collection. I have around 3500-4000 songs, mostly in FLAC. Some is mp3 or vorbis aotuv q7. :)

Ironically I wuz up the the loft t'other day so took a few piccies of records up there for another forum.

I was born in 1961 and like anyone from my era, I have amassed quite a collection.

Random pics of vinyl

And onto CD's.

Where do I start ?

Put it this way..... I got a significant payout for an industrial accident in the early 80's..ie: Cd had only just been invented and was VERY expensive to buy.

I bought a player. There was only classical music available so I got one chucked in with the price....

After a few months a few more cd's trickled in.... OMD.. then Queens A kind of Magic as DDD

And so on....

Latest cd Purchased

The Coral
Arcade Fire (suburbs)
Amy McDonald
Paloma Faith

just took this pic of comp desk with cd's waiting to rip to HD.

I'd have took a pic of the cd's in the living room but the missus would chuck a bollock roll
