Hi all,

I'm having troubles getting started with my new 2GB Ipod shuffle...

I opened my music folder and dragged some songs over to the ipod folder that is on my desktop...
When I click on rhythmbox it opens up but no songs in it?
I have tried downloading gtkpod and the same thing happens...

One thing that I found odd was when gtkpod was setting up the first time I opened it, it asked me which ipod I was using... but from the menu there was no mention of 2GB shuffle... only 1GB ones....?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

jwkungfu,

This thread - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=745450 - might help. However, I never did manage to get it to work, unfortunately. Good luck and God speed!

Try this link also for the new Banshee music player. Worked perfectly right out of the box!

Try Banshee or gtkPod.

It seems that you tried to just drag the music files into the iPod's base directory. This does not work (unless you're using an alternative firmware). To get songs onto the iPod, you must use an application that provides the same feature as iTunes: organizing your songs into the hidden iPod_Control folder. This is all done behind the scenes without you knowing. Gtkpod will allow you to do this with minimal fuss. If you're looking for an all-in-one music manager, then try Amarok or Songbird. I prefer the latter.
