Hi, I have ubuntu 8.04.1 64bit installed on my pc, and one on two I boot Ubuntu the desktop fail to load.
I mean I have the gnome panel loaded but not the desktop with all the drives and files on it, but only a flat orange wallpaper.
Does anybody know hot to solve it?

I am having a similar issue, Yesterday everything was fine, I don't remember making any changes. Today I boot and no wallpaper (solid black) and no icons. If I rotate the cube, I can see right through as if the desktop were transparent, not my usual configuration.
try pressing Alt + F2 and running:
nautilus
dje
All this does is bring up the file manager which I can still access through the main panel. I am using Ubuntu Studio based off of Hardy 64bit.
