[SOLVED] cannot change background and all tabs messed up

Cannot change background on desktop, and all min, max and close tabs have dissappeared. Also can not see hibernate, switch user ... etc when clicking top icon. Please advise:confused:

What do you mean by not being able to change background on the desktop? Are you right clicking on it or going through the menus?
The rest of it sounds like you don't have a window decorator running. Can you do Alt+F3 or open a terminal and run

metacity --replace

Did you do anything special to get any of these problems, or did they just show up?
