back when I used xfce I could assign keyboard shortcuts to websites (i.e. ctrl+alt+m = firefox 'www.gmail.com'). Now that I'm on gnome the best I can do is to set up a shortcut for firefox. Is there a way to make shortcuts to websites?

Bayonet, you should be able to use gconf-editor. See method B in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=79560

Bind the whole command as you have done for xfce:

firefox 'www.gmail.com'
Cheers, Pat.
