Hi all, I have been trying all sorts of options now to restore sound on my laptop since it stopped working, and I fear I may have screwed it up totally.
Failing a simple fix, is there a way of re-installing or re-setting Hardy Heron without loosing my files and data on the HDD?

I am running v8.04
Here are the sound device details;
kiwipete@Ubuntu-laptop:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SI7012 [SiS SI7012], device 0: Intel ICH [SiS SI7012]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

There are other issues, but I will start with this one first.

Just a footnote here, I do however have sound via my USB speakers?

So, your sound used to work on this install and now it doesn't?

You can try my troubleshooting guide, the first part walks you through basic troubleshooting in case you missed something obvious and then goes on and on and on.....

I'm all sorted now. I ended up doing a fresh install of Ubuntu on the laptop and everything is sweet.
Just a labor of love to reinstall everything. lol
