Is there any hope to enable 3d acceleration on a non-nvidia, non-ati video card? I'm assuming that because it won't allow me to enable any visual effects in the appearance preferences that I don't have 3d acceleration or some similar feature enabled/installed.

I have the windows drivers for the video controller (if that helps at all), but I can't find any instructions on how to somehow get a use out of them. All the instructions I find are for nvidia/ati video cards, so can I just assume that hope for my laptop's SiS to run any nice eye candy is for naught? Not that I'm not loving everything about ubuntu so far :).

Sis seems to have a 3d-driver for 8.04, but word has it they want money for it from someone. But go read the thread, it's a longer story. I consider buying a new Laptop, but wanttodo>$$$ :(
