I just installed 8.04 hardy. I was wondering if anyone knew how I can install a different open source driver than the one I have right now. It automatically installed RV250 and I need RV280. Any thoughts on what commands to use. Thanks

Yeah I tried Envy but ATI stopped supporting my driver since the card is older (mobility radeon 9200) So Envy doesn't have it. I couldn't get the ATI site has the driver installation for the last drivers (8.28.8)for this card but I couldn't get them to install.

The documentation site recommends for below the 9500 series to get the open source drivers.

This is from the documentation page:

"If you have an ATI Radeon 9500 or newer (including thx X-series, such as x300, x1600, etc, an Xpress 200, or a Radeon HD card), then you can use the restricted fglrx drivers: BinaryDriverHowto/ATI.

* Radeon HD support is currently limited, but rapidly improving.
If you are using an ATI Radeon card that is older than above, you need the open source drivers: RadeonDriver (NOT fglrx)."
