I've got an old toshiba portege - its a PIII 600mhz 128mb ram so quite limited in cpu power and ram.

Currently I'm running dapper 6.06 with fluxbox as the windows manager- it's not too bad. A while back I upgraded the base to Hardy (still running fluxbox) but found this degraded performance significantly.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the optimum release for these specs - obviously the more recent releases offer more software packages and so on as well as better wireless capabilities, but I don't want to sacrifice performance too much.

Thoughts?
