I have been having trouble getting my sound card to work, I just installed it (hardware), and when I booted up, I seemed to have volume control. I then went to the package manager and found some controls for ALSA and installed them, which then told me I needed to reboot. I did so, but when I did, my volume control looked like it was on "mute". When I clicked to try and open it I got: "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.". I tried uninstalling what I had installed, but to no avail. If anyone could please help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Edit: I have found on the main sound chip "CS4281-CM EP".

Edit: Okay, finally got it to work. I had to completely reinstall ubuntu using the 8.04 alternate installation cd, I booted up and lo and behold, it works!
