I want to get that cube thing I've seen demos of. I followed all the instructions at http://http://thegabfather.wordpress.com/2008/05/17/how-to-install-compiz-fusion-in-ubuntu-hardy-heron/ but I've still got the bog-standard desktop.

What have I missed?

Have you tried:

Alt+F2

compiz --replace

That link doesn't seem to be working. What's your display card ? Intel,ATI and nVidia cards are supported. It may be a configuration problem.

Kevbert - I think that may be the problem. I don't know what the card is. It's an old HP PC that belongs to mu friend.

Open a terminal window and type (or copy/paste)

lspci | grep VGA

That should tell you the graphics card. Post the output.

I'll check next time I use that PC and post the output.

DR583V3 - thank you for the link but I think that's the page I used.
