I'm new to Linux and I decided to install Ubuntu 8.04 on a Thinkpad R40 laptop I had laying around. The speaker icon in the title bar has a red line through it and when I click on it I get this message:
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.
I searched this forum, but didn't find any solutions. I have no idea where to go from here. I'd appreciate any help.
