hi i was wondering if there is a way to reinstall ubuntu but to overwrite my current cause when i boot on my current installation it loads but then a blank black screen comes up and nothing happens so

If you want to overwrite your current Ubuntu; install, go 'Manual' and use the old partitions. You can ignore /swap. If it's something else; let me know.

the first time i tried that i got an input out put error and i got another

Bur a new CD then. Do md5sum, burn at 4x or less, do not use CD-RW, check CD integrity before install. Clen the lens in your burner just in case. Download a new iso if necessary.
