no, i don't think there is. i am playing around with re-creating some of the xmb magic in my own interface prototype. there are so many ways of accessing computers, and the one that most people use is the one least suited to most people's needs.

Hey jeff, for some reason, that page doesn't come up anymore. Do you know anywhere else we can get that?

I don't see why people don't think that an XMB interface for ubuntu or Linux for that matter wouldn't work? Imagine instead of opening a full blown music application like what we usually do, we could just listen to music right there from the XMB. Same thing for file navigation.

Everytime I use the XMB either on the PS3 or PSP, IT JUST MAKES SENSE! Why not make a whole desktop environment based off this design? It's so intuitive and so damn easy to use.

I'm not saying we could program this DE overnight, and there's also some other issues we need to look at, but the basic layout of the XMB is I think THE BEST way to present data to the user. I really think this would GREATLY benfit the ubuntu (and Linux in general) in community. Yeah, what would you have on us now "Leopard" or "7"?

Am I the only one out there thinking like this?

you might be interested in my typhon launcher.

it can make use of ps3 p3t themes
(using the excellent python script p3textractor from http://ps3.blackvoltage.org/ )
and also has a xrossmediabar mode builtin.
