Hi,

I just got a new laptop (a Toshiba Satellite L300) and have installed Ubuntu, but I'm having a couple problems. The brightness keys often don't work, but the brightness applet in the panel seems to do ok most of the time.

What bothers me is that even on 0% brightness, I find the screen unpleasantly bright. Is there anything I can do, or am I just out of luck?

Thanks!

If you are using an nvidia card you can download the nvidia-settings app to configure your video card. It also allows you to configure the brightness.

I reckon you have a similar configuration utility for intel or ati cards, but I can't say for sure
