i want to buy a new drive and i'm wondering what to buy:

SEAGATE 500GB 16mb 5yr warranty

or

WD 640GB 16mb 3yr warranty

the seagate is 15-20% cheaper

WD looks nice but i don't know how good the new generations are. i have mostly seagate drives and they haven't failed me so far. but those extra 140GB look really nice considering my anime appetites :D

so what do you suggest?

WD has served me as well as Seagate has. I installed a new WD drive on a neighbor's machine a few months ago and it seems to be chugging along just fine.
I think I'd go for the larger drive, were I you. :)

I'd get the Seagate. I've 10 old Seagate drives that I took from old PCs that I use for external storage. I can't seem to break them no matter what I do to them.

Both WD and Seafate are really nice. The Seagates indeed seem to resist better to "extreme" handling, but if it's just gonna sit in a compuer case, I guess go for the larger one.

WD has worked well for me (I'm using a WD at the moment, 640gb too).

I'd go with the WD although you can't really go wrong with either drive

Both are really good hard drives, i think either choice you make would be a good one.

They are both good drives but I would rate the Seagate just 'slightly' higher than the WD (I own two of each brand). 5yr warranty is a good thing on the Seagate!!!

Get the Seagate. With the 15-20% saving you might look at adding a bit of extra money and getting a 750GB Seagate. How does that sound

for some strange reason all of the 750GB seagates are really like 80% more then a 500GB, but you made me look better and i found a seagate 640GB for 5% more then the 500Gb so i'll go with that one.

thank you all for the advice.
