I'm thinking about trying it out.
Anyone who has something to report about it?

I installed the Alpha 2 (as KDE4 Version) and updated it all the times.

It's not very spectacular. KDE 4.1 looks nice and is stable but some known functions are missed.
The Design isn't really adapted at the moment, so it's near to the standard KDE 4.1 design.

But nearly everything works and the MCC got a new look.

So, if you want to use KDE 4.1 and see what Mandriva 2009.0 will become, you can try it, but better wait until tomorrow, when beta 2 will be released.

And never forget, don't use it as an productive system, it's still a pre-release ;)

Ive been using it for about a month, and so far its working ok. KDE sometimes crashes (KDE 3 also has many times for me) but i can get it back going. I think when all is said and done, it will be a nice release. IMHO. :)

Beta2 should be out today. Although I have been following the development, I haven't been on line with it for a bit.

Yeah, Beta 2 is due today. I'd wait for that if I were you.

Its out, although the mirrors are still syncing so give it a couple of hours.

If you're not familiar with Mandriva (first time user), then you might want to go for the stable version (2008.1) instead of a beta version. That said, the betas works very well for me. I primarily use it with Gnome. Just remember that it's a beta.

Yeah, and if you go for the KDE4 version, the transition isn't finished yet so expect bumps.

I am using Mandriva 2009 Beta 2 at the moment. It is a very good distro indeed but using it is a bit of a roller coaster. I have been trying out 2009 since Alpha 1 and with some updates you get some great new features and with other it totally trashes your system. The last update didn't have nVidia support and os my screen looked crap. Also bear in mind that it uses KDE4 and lots of the packages that come with that don't work properly yet. Such as K3B and amaroK.

2009 RC1 has just been released so I would try that out if I were you. It looks good on the Live CD but some of the features really only come into their own when you install it. For example it analyses your hardware and uninstalls all the stuff you don't need. Also the printer setup feature is second to none.
