well ubuntu is "oo-BOON-too"

so kubuntu is "koo-BOON-too"

i wasn't aware there was any other way to pronounce it.

Well .... that last hiragana is really "tsu," but it is close enough.

My thought process was intended to jump at the fact that there were plenty of consonant and vowel pairs.

Kuh-bun-too

The bold syllable is stressed and the vowel sounds like the u in put, or the ue in suet.

the "u"s in ubuntu are pronounced like "ooo"...

in most languages, thats how a U sounds. only in america do people think it has a "uh" sound.

"uh-bun-too" sounds absolutely hideous.

In Zulu and probably many other Nungi/African languages you would say:

Ku (As in kudu)
bun (As in the German bundesliga, can't think of anything english with that sound)
tu (As in too or two)

Now the above is the way the word is pronounced in it's place of origin. How you pronouce it is your baby.

Same as 'Ubuntu' but with a 'k' in front.

く-ぶ-ん-つ

ku-bu-n-tu

Japanese style.

I pronounce it just like that, but not from Japanese, rather from Bulgarian. It is the same - the pronounciation, not the hiragana. :)

By the way, for me as a bulgarian, "kubuntu" sounds incredibly stupid. It doesn't mean anything, it's just a silly word. :)
