KDED crashing

Running Kubuntu 8.04, fully updated from the repos. KDED is silently crashing. No error messages are being shown when it crashes. On a fresh login to KDE, pop in a data DVD, and it behaves normally (opens in Dolphin etc). Eject the DVD, insert another data DVD, and again it all behaves normally. Repeat a few times, and at some point KDED silently crashes. At this point no DVD can be automounted (didn't try manually mounting with the sudo mount command). We tried manually restarting KDED and although it seems to start, DVDs can still not be automounted. Logging out and back into KDE "fixes" the KDED problem... for a little while.. and then it silently fails again.

Any ideas what we can do to fix this?
