View Full Version : [ubuntu] Which version is right?

Okay, I am a total noob to Linux (was using Mandriva, but read so many good things about Ubuntu that I just have to check it out!)

One problem is stopping me though:

I am unsure of which version to download, and seeing as I only have one disk left, I don't want to risk the chance of downloading the wrong one.

I have a Compaq Presario with an AMD Athlon XP 2400+, and I am unsure which of the 2 downloads will work with that hardware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do you mean the live or the alternate or the 32 bit or 64 bit (amd64)?

I was going to do the Live CD and then if I like it, install from Live CD.

I don't know which one is right though, 32 bit or other?

I don't believe Athlon xp's were 64 bit, so I would go with 32 bit.

(If it is 64bit, it will run a 32bit os just fine so there's no worries this way)
