If anyone has ever heard of programs like Sopcast, TVUPlayer, TVAnts and others along those lines..do any such programs exist for Ubuntu?

You can try Zattoo (http://zattoo.com/) (if you live in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, or the UK).

There are some SopCast clients for Ubuntu, like gsopcast. Search the forums for it (it's not in the repositories).

sopcast offer the linux versions on their download page, though they aren't .debs

I visit a website hulu.com which has alot of free legal videos to watch.

Also, if you search for it on Tv.com, you can view hulu videos without the ads.
