My onboard works for crap in vista(works great in XP and great in ubuntu other then wine) so if i have to get a new one might as well be one i can use with wine. Any suggestions?

if sound is o.k. in ubuntu there is no reason it should be worse in wine, probably a config problem, did you setup winecfg? wineasio also does miracles. If you can't solve look wine faqs or post under wine

if you're using 'on-board Sound'(re: Reatek)...get yourself a Creative Labs "Audigy' card. (The 24-bit version...will work for both XP/Vista!) And, very surprisingly, also....for all Linux OS's.
I am using one.......in my dual-boot System (XP Pro/Kubuntu)
Sound worked...right the very Start....Not a problem, with it.
Creative DOES fully support Linux.
Realtek is just starting to, that's why there are so many problems with it.
