Can't quite figure out why open source would hinder innovation. Your opinions?

The 35-year-old Agassi believes software can be made even better. He is at the forefront of the thought that wants to give companies "parts" that they can connect to create business models. So if you want to become a Dell-like seller, you just need to buy a "part" that can handle thousands of customer enquiries, another that makes sure the order gets broken down and sent to the cheapest suppliers, yet another to track goods as they come into the warehouses and also a "part" that handles customer complaints and feedback, and learns what worked and what didn't. And these parts will work without hanging up on the user. Just like the way a car or a television does. Except that when Agassi says "parts" he is talking bits - software programs - and not atoms as in the case of a car or a television...
Gee, sounds an awful lot like linux and OSS... except for that "free" part.
He's just one more "Saint" up Microsoft's ass.

"But if you look at the most innovative desktop today, Microsoft's Vista is not copying Linux, it is copying Apple."
That just wrong.
I don't agree with the basis of the article.
I interpret what is meant in the article is that using open source code for inovation makes for a bad business choice because you can't close off the code when you release/sell it. So, copy the ideas and not the code. However, copying is not inovation, so I'm really sure the article make any real sense.
