Hello, all!

Does anyone know of any exciting open source projects an intermediate developer (like me) should consider contributing to? I am advanced in Java (though I do not like it) and proficient in Python (which I consider the best).

Thanks!

Hi!
This is not a big big project but it is very cool, and involves GUI, hardware communication etc and t is in python. and I need some help there :) if you want leave a line at the mailing list.

P.S. - The software is based in python and Tk for now, but the gui toolkit can change.

What kind of programs are you interested in? Are there any python programs you use on a daily basis? Those are the kinds of projects you should consider contributing to.

http://djangoproject.com/ might be a good start if you're a fan of Python - it's a big project with a lot of documentation, and there's a whole heap of tickets you can use to get your hands dirty with.

Otherwise, look at Python libraries and see what needs bug fixing or feature additions!

What about Blender? Aren't you reinventing the wheel?

You should visit our website: It would give you more relevant info.

No, we do not reinvent Blender. We focus to simpify game description and generation - like Game Maker, only Free, and in Python. :-)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blender_(software) is 3D advanced animation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygame is simple 2D library specifically for games.

Pygame wikipedia page shows another very useful Python project:

Phil's Pygame Utilities (PGU) is a collection of tools and libraries that enhance Pygame. ... pgu is now unmaintained).

So brave hacker can get into a project and maintain it!

Blender also has a nice gaming engine and, as it can render 3D, can render 2D games as well. Its plugins are even written in Python!

You should check out NUIgroup. We are doing some exciting things with Multi-Touch technologies, a lot of it in Python(and a lot more will be in a month or so). We are writing a framework called Lux which is a GUI toolkit for Multi-Touch widgets(ZUI, Larger buttons, gestures).

All the best,

We're always looking for more help with wicd (http://www.wicd.net). It's a network management app written in Python/PyGTK.
