This is more like a rant. Two of my USB flash drives were stolen and I suspect a Verizon FIOS installation technician took them.

The only thing related to Ubuntu is one of the drives has Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha3 (LiveUSB :) ) on it.

I thought I was carefully enough. I cleaned my desk a bit before I let the technician use it, but I forgot those two drives. One of the drives had a strap attached to it and that was the only thing I found today--apparently he found it tacky or something. If he didn't remove it and left it behind, I'd have thought I misplaced them somewhere.

Anyway, I will file a complaint to Verizon tomorrow and see what will happen.

At least I gave myself a reason to order a $15 4GB USB flash drive.

There was an 8GB for $20 + $5 S&H on Woot.com a week ago.

At least it was just a couple of thumb drives. I showed up to work to find my 22" monitor missing!

@barbedsaber, I got a 2GB one for $5 about 2 months ago. They are cheap in Australia if you look out for bargins.

I'm eying off a 16 gig (on ze inernets) atm, no point getting a 4 gig, when I need 8, and want 16.

That's why you don't leave strangers alone in your house.

Whenever a guy(s) are doing something in my house, I'm sticking to them like glue.

And while you watch them doing their job, you learn some new things.

You best get some free service for this, and yeah never leave a "contractor" in the house alone.

I've generally heard and learned that ISP installation technicians usually don't do anything useful, but FiOS may be different.

I've taken to encrypting all my flash drives with Truecrypt, I lose these things on a regular basis, now I just lose a cheap bit of hardware instead of sensitive personal information.
