View Full Version : [ubuntu] Synaptic Update Failure?

I just installed my first native ubuntu onto a second hard drive successfully (finally, it took forever). Windows XP is installed on the primary hard drive. To my dismay, while installing the 130 updates that Synaptic Updater recommended the whole screen went black with a few messages that had "OK" on the right. I believe the last message said something like "Reload boot scripts" or something; I apologize for not knowing the exact line, I was hoping a reboot would do the trick. So after waiting at this screen for about 15 minutes with nothing showing any progress, I rebooted my computer by pressing the restart button on the front. Now I select Ubuntu from the boot menu (as opposed to other Windows XP choice) and I get a GRUB4DOS 0.4.3 screen and I have no clue what to do. I tried ESC to get to the menu and there are the following options that all more or less amount to nothing:

find /ubuntu/disks/boot/grub/menu.lst
find /ubuntu/install/boot/grub/menu.lst
find /menu.lst
find /boot/grub/menu.lst
find /grub/menu.lst
commandline
reboot
halt

Any ideas? I tried searching the forums for this topic for a while and I couldn't find anything like this.
