Mandriva works perfect on my rig, it's been my distro of choice for quite some time. I just love their KDE implementation

Mandriva works perfectly fine for me, even the 2009 beta. Which forum did you go to. The one at club.mandriva.com is quite active and there are many Mandriva experts and developers that hang out there.

i know people that made a big mistake when they installed windows vista. so? just use what works for you. there isnt an OS on earth that will work with every computer. when will people realise this? btw, mandriva works perfect for me also. have a nice day, and i hope you find what you're looking for.

i totally agree. mandriva is a wonderful kde based distro. (this is coming from someone that doesnt like kde generally)

Can you give me the links to your forum posts?
Which Version and flavour of Mandriva did you use (Free, One, Powerpack)?
Did you use KDE, GNOME or XFCE?
Look and feel is a matter of taste, but you can adapt it the way you like.

Yeah. That sounds terrible !?
the gui looks terrible in my thoughts
Hey, most linux distros look like crap by default. Lets face it, linux users lack taste for the most part. Mandriva is no exception, other than that i think the "ia ora" is a good fit for kde, but i've seen better. They should really get rid of the crystal icon set in kde though!
package management is good
Urpmi kinda grows on you. I still don't like the GUI though. Notice it's like dialog, on dialog, all thrown out randomly on your screen? How about some polish? It looks a bit hackish.
theres alot of glitches with my dell hardwarei
Mandriva has been very good to me in that regard. However, you need to let mandrivas control center do some work with that sometimes. (binary drivers, firmware etc).
i went to the forum no real support from ppl i just feel frustrated theres nothing i could really do i thought i could just go kde once and try out baghira mac4kde but everything failed on my part
Didn't quite get that. What was your question again? (remember punctuation, paragraphs, question mark etc)

"The Gui looks terrible"
Such a statement is worthless without more information and examples on what you didn't like.
Looks are a matter of taste. IMO, Mandriva offers one of the best looks out of the box and the look is very consistent whichever DE you use. I still modify it to my liking though, like I've done on every Linux distro I've tried.
"but theres alot of glitches with my dell hardware"
What glitches? Once again you don't include any information or examples.
"went to the forum no real support from ppl"
Links to your posts? The official forum is full of helpful people/Mandriva users.
It sounds like you're used to Gnome? If so then switching to KDE may be a reason for not liking the GUI. Just remember, Mandriva is not just about KDE. I use it with Gnome myself.
If you dislike something and want to give people advice, you should really try to include the needed information. Statements like "it's ugly" and "there are a lot of glitches" are worth nothing without further info.

One of the good thing about the ia ora themes is the consistency, regardless if you use KDE, Gnome or XCFE. I agree with you about the icons. Then again that's something I always change to my liking anyway.

I kinda agree with you on the dialog thing. I love using the GUI. It's nice and simple to work with, but the popup dialogs can be a little annoying. It keeps improving, but I'd like to see a more polished approach as well.

Wolfen--> As you might know. Mandriva is not really a KDE based distro. It's just as much about Gnome, XCFE and others. I use Mandriva 2008.1 Gnome myself. Using Gnome in Mandriva is great. Especially because of the easy to use Mandriva Control Center tools. These tools give me what I normally think Gnome is lacking. Which is why I was never really happy with Gnome, before using it in Mandriva. Now I love it.

FWIW, I've always used GNOME myself.

Am I the only MDV KDE user left? Even then, I spend a lot of time in XFCE and Enlightenment.

Mandriva is the only kde distro I've used that didn't make me want to kick a hole in something. Hats off to them for that acomplishnent

I love Mandriva too. It was the first distro I ever tried, and it's really gotten better recently. The 2008 Mandys have been fantastic. I'm dual booting Ubu Hardy Gnome with Mandy Spring KDE, and I really feel like I'm getting the very best that Linux has to offer.
Hats off to the Mandriva team though. It's a sweet, sweet distro! I can't believe it doesn't get more attention. We need to push it more, and raise awareness.

It seems it does get quite a lot of attention. I see a lot of new users in the forum lately. Well deserved. It's a great OS.

I actually went back to using Mandriva PWP 2008.1 on my main desktop.
I like the MCC and how most things are configurable within it. I can do it in the CLI but it's nice to just use a gui sometimes when I just want to be lazy.
I actually like MCC more than openSUSE's YAST, as it seems quicker to me.
Once 2009 is released, I'll try it on my laptop, but I doubt I will use KDE4.

I'm just waiting for a stable release (next Thursday apparently) and then I'll update, In cooker my repos seems to break whenever I install anything despite using easy urmpi and the default packages

Wait until you start it up in 2009, it's instant! Very nice...

I agree, it seems very temperamental for something apparently "stable", but i think that has to do more with urpmi having a hard time with development packages than the actual system really. When everything is "there", it should be fine. Time will tell :)

Actually it's just a repo sync issue. the master server was down for a while, and now a slow connection between it and an internal system is delaying things. most mirrors should be synced up and working properly later today or tomorrow, I guess.
