i have just downloaded the live cd and tried to install ubuntu 8.04 lts on to my computer with win xp pro.

that diddnt work so my friend told me to download the alternate cd. i did that and i still cant get it to install. i have changed the bios to boot from the cd first.

the computer has 512mb of ram so should quite happily take ubuntu.

if anyone can help please do!!

thanks!

Hi Matthew, can you be more specific than "didn't work"? :)

More information is needed. Like what happens when you try to install it? Do you get any error messages?

Check the disk for any errors, also check if the md5's match.

right ok

firstly i downloaded the live cd and burned it on to a dvd. i unpacked the .iso

then i changed the bios to boot from the dvd drive.

when i put the cd in to boot from it it diddnt boot and bios said cd boot failure and loaded winxp.

then in xp it had an option to creat a boot menu which i did. then it rebooted and i chose the ubuntu option. after loading the live cd i clicked on install. as it was installing it stopped with an error and rebooted the system.

since i wanted ubunut only that ment there was nothing on the hdd.

i then reinstalled win xp pro and downloaded the text based installer and did the same procedure like with the live cd. but when rebooting it said boot failure and loads xp every time.

Why did you unpack the iso? Just burn the iso. And burn it on a cd not a dvd.;)
