As far as I'm concerned, the only really useful acceleration effect is transparent windows. The rest is just for fun.

Although while using Gnome+Compiz, I did enjoy the Scale - All Desktops window chooser.

There's no such thing as a useless effect in Compiz, they're there for you to choose from.
I especially loved the comment that said there are way too many window switchers - it's about choice, that's why we have so many.

If you want "just one", go use Windows Vista.

I wish they would have made penguins rather than dolphins. I know it's not linux but wtf - compiz doesn't have a dolphin as it's logo, so why not? Probably because a penguin doesn't look like anything recognizable when it swims.
