Hi Users,

I have a big problem with my Gnome. The thing is that I cant log on, well I can log on but then I just have a orange screen where I can move my mouse but nothing happens. I have already restored my xorg.conf and my sources.list, because i first thought they might be the problem, which they are apparently no, so it must be gnome. I have also already tried to rename my .gnome2 so that the system creates a new one, but this didn't work either. After that i tried to reinstall "ubuntu-desktop", but this also didn't help.

So what could I do? Do I have to reinstall everything?

Thank you

Hi,

I had a similar behaviour after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04.
I logged into GNOME Failsafe session and did "dpkg --configure -a".
That fixed it.

See: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=865679
Maybe your have a different problem though.

Cheers,
S.

I have this issue since upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04. Everywhere I search I find the threads end with the OP stating that they've 'solved' it by reinstalling.

Has anyone got any usefull suggestions on how to solve this problem WITHOUT reinstalling?
