Anyone know of a window manager which mixes TILING and OVERLAPPED behaviours; e.g. the ability to stick to windows together side by side with a resizer between them, and ideally placing the desktop-level windows within tab-groups too (saving title-bar space) - e.g. a little like the way GIMP's panels work (stacking multiple tab-groups).

After messing with various text editors (e.g. KDE's kate with the shell & file-browser embedded ) it seemed a really good WM should save needing more elaborate features within individual application programs.

I gather there's a pure tiled WM (awesome?) which might do a lot of this?
