Hello, I am about to install ubuntu as a dual boot option on a pc currently running Vista home premium, so I will have both Ubuntu and Vista available in Grub.

What I would like to know is if when Ubuntu is installed on a partition of the same harddrive as vista, will vista still be able to defragment the drive correctly, even when the linux partitions are on the same drive? This is important to me as if I do not defragment the harddrive on a regular basis Vista slows down alot, so I hope that defragmentation of the drive will still work correctly, despite separate partitions and file systems.

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

Vista will carry on as before with its defrag - it won't take as long as it won't recognise the linux partitions so will only work on the windows partitions.

Vista defrags it's own partition only. Allocate space for Ubuntu with the Vista partitioner first.
