Hi Guys,
I recently bought an Acer Aspire One laptop and immediately dumped the limited "Linpus" distro in favor of Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop.

I have also added an additional 1GB of RAM giving me 1.5GB.

I am very impressed the little Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor hums away and the intel graphics is more than efficient to use Compiz Fusion effects.

I have noticed after a few days performance is starting to lack more especially with firefox greying out every few seconds, I know this is not supposed to be a hugely powerful machine but I cant help but wonder if I should be looking at Xubuntu which is a little lighter?

Does anyone know of an alternate distro which may give me improved performance without killing off features?

Should I think about changing the GUI to FLuxbox?

Any pointers or examples of what someone else may already be doing would be great :)

Maybe turn off C-F effects first? If it still has problems, you can go to progressively lighter environments.1.5 GB RAM should be enough though.
