yup, this is trivial, but i don't know why it's considered bad.

:lolflag:

It's generally a mistake, and a lot of people ask for it to be removed (some people will report their own posts for this).

Duplicate posts (literally - the same post twice) make the thread harder to follow (in my opinion) though 2 posts in a row by the same user I don't see much of a problem with, unless it looks like they're bean hunting :)

Just my opinion anyway

Clogs up the page when a simple edit will do. It's especially annoying when the double-poster has a really long signature.

yup, this is trivial, but i don't know why it's considered bad.

It can be a sign of bad things, but on busy forums it happens a lot.

Valid reason for double posting:

Replying to more than one post (often it is only possible to do them one at a time, because of the volume here)
A completely new thought, where an edit wouldn't be logical
To post your solution to your own unanswered post

More exist, but those are ones I could think of.

Double posting is inappropriate for bean hunting and minor comments which should be edits.

p.s. When I made my 2nd post, I tried it without the smiley. The forum wouldn't let me make the post because it said it was a duplicate post made within the last 5 minutes. Interesting! :)

p.p.s You can remove my smart alek double post if you want. Sorry.

Speaking of "bean hunting", could we get an "anything goes" thread that would pad our bean counts? It's always a laff riot on other forums when the admins finally pull the plug & all the postwhores are suddenly exposed. :)

i hate to go off topic here, but what is the point of keeping postcounts? i know some argue that it gives someone additional credibility if they seem to have invested(?) in their posting, but what if their postcount reflects 20,000 posts of drivel?

LaRoza only has 12,000.

What is the point of having avatars? What is the point of have user names? What is the point of having sigs?

also i've noticed some new users registering a shuffled popular/ revered usernames, for example meg23 ;)

should there be some measures taken to prevent this? just a passing thought.

Double posting has occasionally happened to me when I've been impatient and clicked "submit" more than once, but the trap for "duplicate message" usually catches it.

But the Question is, That we don't have any check for the unique user ID name ? Strange ?

It is a different name than mine. LaRoza != LaRosa, लारोज़ा != लारोसा

Where I come from (forum wise), double posting is the act of posting the same post twice in a row. When I first started going to stricter forums I was confused at the "double post" complaints. I just don't understand what the big deal was.

(hey I edited my post instead of posting again! :D)

Why dont we have the feature Automerged Double Post? Another VBulletin Forum I visit has this feature.

the reason i double post (or, i guess it should be called 'back to back' posting) is i don't want my fans to miss an edit.

Hmmm what an odd thread

hey look, a swan!

There have been times when I thought it might be appropriate to back to back post when one reply was going to be humorous and another reply was going to be very serious. Sometimes it just doesn't seem appropriate to mix the two replies in one post. But that really only applies to discussion subforums where you can't be a post ***** anyway.

you can be second too if you really want...:p
no thank you. :)
